In observation of the 230th report of Department related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs on “Atrocities of Crimes Against Women and Children” by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the Women’s Forum, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama, Nagaland organised a Webtalk on the Topic: “Women Safety” on 18th September 2021 at 11:00 am on Zoom platform which was attended by 286 female faculties and students from the college.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Thejasenuo Julia Kirha, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) and the welcome address was delivered by Ms. Khriebuno Nagi, Assistant Professor, Department of English, St. Joseph’s College(Autonomous). The Resource Person, Dr. Medonuo Pienyü (HOD),Department of Sociology,St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama, Nagaland stressed on the awareness about violence, the legal rights, the safety measures and helpline available for women as major areas of concern. She also added that women have internalised violence as normal and hardly stand up against domestic violence even though ending violence against women is everyone’s responsibility. By mentioning some safety tips for women’s safety she said we need long term solutions to make a better and safer place for women. Therefore, one has to empower oneself by educating, learning and sharing about violence and seeking help from the services provided by the state. The programme concluded successfully with a vote of thanks by Ms. Khrielieü Zumvü, Assistant Professor, Department of History, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama.Pages:
