The History Department of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assessment Cell of the college conducted a one- day webinar on the topic “Prospects of SWAYAM For the Present and the Future” on the 30th of October, 2021. SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active- Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is an educational programme initiated by the Government of India to make E-Learning accessible to everyone in the country.

The webinar was chaired by Capt. Regina Razousinuo, a senior faculty member of the department. The Principal, Dr. Fr. George Keduolhou Angami, in his welcome address emphasized on the importance of the teaching faculty to be aware about the various aspects and prospects of SWAYAM. The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Nzano Kikon (HoD, History Dept.) in which she highlighted the growing importance of online classes and courses more so because of the ongoing COVID- 19 pandemic and how E-platforms such as SWAYAM could help students in their academic career.

In the first technical session, the resource person, Ms. Khrielie-ii Zumvii, Assistant Professor, SJC(A) talked about the context and purpose of SWAYAM, its objectives and relevance. She also outlined the various courses that are available under the programme and meticulously explained the procedure of enrolment and the benefits of pursuing the courses.

The resource person for the second technical session was Mr. Reimaya Muinao, Assistant Professor, SJC(A), who emphasized on the implementation process and general acceptance of SWAYAM. Mr. Muinao eloquently stressed the need for education system to evolve and adapt in accordance with changing times and how initiatives such as SWAYAM fulfils that purpose.

The webinar concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Hormila G. Zingkhai, Co-ordinator, IQAC, SJC(A).
