A National Webinar on “An Introduction to Astronomy and Astrophysics” organized by the Department of Physics, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) in collaboration with the IQAC of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, Nagaland, was held on the 17th of September, 2021, where participants from different colleges and universities attended.
The webinar began with a note of Welcome Address by Rev. Fr. Peter Solo, the Dean of Science, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, Nagaland. This was followed by a talk on the topic “India’s Involvement in Mega Projects in Astronomy” by the Resource Person Prof. Ranjan Gupta, Head of IGO, IUCAA, Pune, India, where he highlighted the different Astronomy Projects India is involved with and the various opportunities where students can also learn by being part of the Projects. The Second Session was also addressed by Prof. Ranjan Gupta. He spoke on the topic “A Career in Astronomy and Astrophysics”, whereby he discussed the various possible career opportunities in Astronomy and Astrophysics for young people, in particular, for the students of Physics. The Final Session was addressed by Mr. Samir Dhurde, Scientific Officer (Public Outreach), IUCAA, Pune, India. His talk was based on the topic “Ways to Study the Sky by Yourself”, where he shared with the participants about the different ways to observe and study the sky and the celestial bodies therein. The webinar concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Miss. Thejano Mekro, Head, Department of Physics, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, Nagaland.Pages:
