Department of Political Science SJC (A), Jakhama In Collaboration with Humtso Village Observes National Panchayati Raj Day, April 24, 2022

On 24th, April 2022, the Department of Political Science, St. Josephs’ College (Autonomous), Jakhama, Kohima, Nagaland, observed the National Panchayati Raj Day in collaboration with Humtso Village Council, an awareness programme on the ‘Importance of Panchayati Raj’ in contemporary India. Welcome address was delivered by Mr. Rhanbemo Humtsoe, Humtso Village Chairman, followed by an opening remark by Dr. Mhonthung Yanthan, HOD, Department of Political Science, St. Josephs’ College (Autonomous) Jakhama, Kohima. Mr. Dihe Mao, Assistant Professor exhorted the gathering on the ‘Importance of Panchayati Raj’ at the grass-root level. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi “Development of village is the true development of India”, he stated that, local knows best of local problems and local are the right leader and administrators for local solutions. He also acknowledged the organic produces contributed by the Humtso village to Wokha district and to the rest of Nagaland. He further stated on the need for village-state leadership initiative, for development and good connectivity of road to the village, which is just 8 kilometres away from the District head quarter, Wokha. Mr. Kevizase Edward, Assistant Professor also shared about the judicious use of MNREGA Scheme for resilient village development. Sharing their concerns, the villagers lamented that, due to bad road connectivity, lack of cold storage, marketing shed and marketing opportunities hampers their organic agro, horticulture and other farmed products to sell at a large scale, which calls for strong government’s support and attention. The programme ended with concluding remark delivered by Mr. Renthungo Humtsoe, Assistant Professor St. Josephs’ College (Autonomous) Jakhama, Kohima, Nagaland.
